I am so excited to share my collaboration with Getaway House! This past weekend, my boyfriend and I went to Lisbon, Ohio to stay one night in one of their tiny cabins. We truly had the best time ever! If you’re not familiar with Getaway House, they just recently opened up a Pittsburgh/Cleveland location that have over twenty little cabins nestled away in the woods under a bunch of pine trees. I was absolutely shocked when we pulled up because the landscape itself was absolutely gorgeous!
One thing that I love about this concept is although it is similar to a campground, you still had your privacy. I also really liked how you didn’t have to stop and get keys, they just text you your code and cabin name a few hours before check in. It really made everything hassle free! Since check in was at 3pm we pulled up around 4pm that way we still had daylight left to get everything organized. It took us about an hour and a half to get there from Pittsburgh so it wasn’t bad at all. Just as an FYI, these cabins obviously do not have a TV which allows you to really relax without any “outside noise”. They also have a cell phone lock box that you can put your phone in for the time being.
It is a “tiny cabin” but it had a lot more space than I had ever thought. I was shocked on how big the kitchen and shower were. I was a little worried that my boyfriend and I wouldn’t have that much space but we really had no issues at all. One major thing that I loved was how clean everything was. For it being “in the woods” you definitely couldn’t tell by the inside. After we took some photos we got ready for dinner and headed to this really cool place in town called The Courthouse Inn & Restaurant. It was about ten minutes from the Getaway outpost so it was very convenient. They had a tremendous menu and I highly suggest stopping here. Your jaw will definitely drop when you walk into their bathrooms lol!
A few other places we also found were Pondi’s Restaurant & Bar and Shale Tavern & Grill. Both were only a few minutes away from the outpost. The little town that the restaurant we went to was in reminded me so much of Savannah, Georgia. In the spring/fall I am sure it is really gorgeous so walking around there would be something to do as well. If I am not mistaking, it looked like they were adding in more shops and even a coffee spot so that would be exciting!
After dinner we came back to the cabin and put on some comfy clothes. We unfortunately didn’t have a fire because we were freezing but we ended up streaming the Pittsburgh Penguins game on my boyfriends laptop so it was nice to get all cozy and watch that together. Some people have problems falling asleep without a TV being on and my boyfriend is one of them, so he downloaded two Netflix movies. Since I didn’t feel like reading my book that I brought, we fell asleep to the Grinch, which I wasn’t mad about it haha. I ended up waking up around 4am because there was a torrential downpour outside and it was so LOUD. Although I ended up falling back asleep, we both woke up around 7am and decided to head home. All in all we had the best time and both can’t wait to go back with family and friends! I highly suggest renting out one of these cabins whether it be for a romantic getaway or a friends trip, you’ll have a blast!
Last Sunday, I stepped completely out of my comfort zone and attended one of my first Blogger Bash events. I had no idea what to expect, and with getting my IUD just a day prior, I wasn’t sure if I was even going to be able to make it. But I did, and couldn’t be happier for doing so. I started blogging purely to share my love for fashion and to help others save some coin! But before WLFJ became what it is now, I started blogging on Tumblr. I was a junior in high school and just had my first surgery on my stomach. Since I was off of school for a few days, I was bored and decided to find a new hobby. I wasn’t consistent but every once in a while I would go on and share some fashion related posts. Come senior year, I had a another major surgery which in turn had me in the hospital for two weeks, and because of how invasive it was, I had to leave high school and get home schooled. I had teachers come to my house three days a week for a few hours but other than that, I was so bored. I was in a lot of pain for months and wasn’t able to do much, so that is when I dived in full force and started being consistent on Tumblr. For me it was just something to do and I would of never guessed that the blogging world would ever be what it is now. In 2017, I began With Love From Jordyn and if you would of told me that I would of been invited to a Blogger Bash, with over 20+ girls, that I have never met, and that I actually attended it, I wouldn’t of believed you. This event was beyond perfect. I met so many amazing women that were all so inspiring. The event was held at The Loveliest Coffee & Clothes and Glow Blotique. Both which were absolutely gorgeous shops. We all had our hair done at Glow Blotique and all of the photo ops were at The Loveliest Co. It truly is the most instagramable shop that I have ever seen. Florals were by @stemsfloral. They had all of the things from cookies, cupcakes, charcuterie boards, champagne, coffee, and tea. The food was by Mediterra, Becka Bakes, and Tasty Baker. After mingling for a while, we all picked out some pieces from The Loveliest and took photos outside with photographer Caitlin Thomas who is @caitlintphoto on insta! This part was SUPER out of my comfort zone because of course, all of my insecurities started running through my head. It’s one thing taking your own photos but it’s another having a professional take them. Caitlin worked her magic though, and I am actually obsessed with how the pictures turned out. After taking all of the photos, we had an Instagram Tips & Tricks Panel with Katie from @loveyoursocialmedia, Cristin from @gossboss_photovideo, and Brea from @thethinkingbranch. All of three of these women were so inspiring and I truly learned so much. It was nice to see women supporting women. Lastly, I was so happy to meet Victoria from @ohjoyfulday who made this watercolor portrait. I have wanted this done for years now for a few things that I have up my sleeve so stay tuned!
This past weekend, my boyfriend and I went to a cute little wine bar in the South Hills. It was so much fun trying different types of wine and eating our super yummy charcuterie board! We ended up hanging there for a few hours and I loved every second of it. Totally my vibe lol! I highly suggest giving this place a visit if you’re in the South Hills. They had many different types of wines to choose from as well as different types of charcuterie boards and flat breads. The workers are also very helpful and knowledgeable which makes it easy to order!
This past Friday my boyfriend, a few friends, and I went to the Carnegie Science Center for a Stranger Things event that they were hosting. It has been years and years since I have been here so it was nice to check everything out again. Although the event had pretty much nothing to do with Stranger Things we all had fun reminiscing. If you’re looking for something to do in Pittsburgh, I definitely would give the Science Center a visit, especially if you have little ones. As for parking, they have a parking lot right near the entrance which makes it a lot more convenient. I do believe you have to pay to park unless if that was just for the event. Inside, they have plenty of restrooms as well as a little gift shop. Check out their website here.
If you are in the Pittsburgh area, The Johnston House is a must. It is the perfect place for a girls day out, bridal shower, baby shower, or even just some afternoon tea. Just an FYI, you do have to make reservations so if you’re planning to go, plan ahead. I went with my Mom, Grandma, and Aunt and we all had such a great time. When you walk in, you walk through a tiny tea shop. A worker will greet you and take you to your table. You will then be waited on and order your drinks. I always just get the hot tea but they also have iced tea, water, coffee, etc. After you receive your drinks you then get your little snacks delivered to your table. After that, you’re good to go. We usually just sit and talk and when finished we visit the tiny store. For our snacks, we had cucumber sandwiches, quiche, chicken salad croissants, and some small desserts. Everything was SO delicious and whatever you do not finish they give you a box to take it home. As for pricing, I believe it was around $30 a person which is totally worth it in my eyes. I highly recommend The Johnston House, you won’t regret it!
Last weekend my boyfriend and I celebrated our one year anniversary at Floor 2 in downtown Pittsburgh. This past year has been the best year of my life and I have him to thank for that. They say when you least expect it you’ll meet your person and I think I truly found mine. Before I get into how our dinner went, I wanted to quickly add in how our little love story began, as some you have asked. *Insert some T Swift Love Story* Although both him and I would rather have some lovey dovey beginning, we met from Tinder hahaha! We first met a little over two years ago, went on one date, and that was it. I may or may not have thought he was a donkey butt. Sorry T! But as always…I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason because almost exactly a year later we both were somewhat newly single and started talking again thanks to another lovely dating app (we really know how to pick em). All jokes aside, this time around went much better! We met for drinks one Sunday afternoon at The Yard and before we knew it, we were there for a couple of hours. We both hit it off really well as if we were old friends catching up on years of passed time. After our “second first date” I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think he was the one. You could say I found my missing puzzle piece. I know I am so cheesy. Who would have thought? lol. Reality is, I don’t know what the future holds for us, but I thank God for him every single day.
As for our dinner, we tried somewhere new called Floor 2. The atmosphere was my absolute favorite. We both first ordered drinks, he got a glass of wine and I ordered their rose. The rose was SOOO good and the aesthetic was on point. For an appetizer, we ordered their $15 charcuterie board. I was a little disappointed as it came with like six pieces of meat and no cheese. Very small portioned. Since I obviously have stomach issues, I just went for the caesar salad with oil and vinegar as my main meal. I don’t think you could really mess that up but it was very fresh. Tom ordered their chicken which he said was very good. They did have a big sized portion when it came to that.
For dessert we ordered their chocolate pave. It was also SOOO good. We both said we wouldn’t go back for dinner but we also didn’t order any of their specialty dinners so that could of been our issue. Needless to say, their drinks and desserts were amazing.
