Being a micro blogger was something that I never really thought about until a few years ago. I have always loved sharing my fashion finds as well as my favorite beauty and lifestyle products but never in a million years did I think I would actually gain a following from doing so. I remember when I first started taking blogging seriously back in the summer of 2018. I still remember the first brand that I worked with. I still remember thinking I would never get more than 600 followers. Fast forward to present day, I am almost at 10,000 followers and have worked with so many amazing brands and have become internet friends with so many amazing people. Am I where I want to be? No. Am I setting goals and paving the way to where I want to be? Yes. Is it easy? Absolutely not. That is why I am writing this post and I guess if you are here reading it, you are in the same boat as me. I always get messages from other micro bloggers who are just starting out asking for advice and or how I gained the following that I have. I even get messages asking how I got collaborations with certain brands. So I decided to write this post to answer all of your questions. As always, feel free to reach out, I am always here to help where I can. With Love From Jordyn is a judgement free zone!
How did you start a blog?
I actually started a blog back in high school on Tumblr. After using that platform for a few years, I then decided to go in full force back in 2018 where I bought my website on wordpress.com. I designed everything myself and still do to this day. Youtube and Google were my life savors.
How did you gain a following?
I really don’t have an answer for this aside from just being true to myself and my content. Never buy followers. When you buy followers you’re basically just getting ghost followers so they won’t be interacting with your posts anyways which in turn is just pointless. Most brands look at your interactions such as likes and comments. From what I have learned, comments are more important than likes. Every time I get a follower who looks like they are not real and or are a spam account I block them. I would have probably 500-600 more followers if I didn’t do that but I would also have a big ghost following so for me, I would rather just have genuine followers with a smaller number if that makes sense.
How did you work with brands such as Tula and Aveeno?
I wish I had a better answer but they simply just reached out to me by email. I was really excited because I have used their products before and really genuinely like them so being able to collaborate was a dream come true. I have yet to reach out to a brand. It can definitely be intimidating but I am going to give it a shot soon. I have a few brands in mind that would be so cool to work with!
How do you always have outfits to post?
I sometimes get stuff sent to me so it makes things easier but I just buy pieces that are very versatile so it can make many different looks. I also sometimes go to Goodwill or shop on Poshmark. TJ Maxx is even a good place to get nice pieces on a budget.
Have you been able to make money and if so how does that work?
This can sometimes be a touchy subject for bloggers so I have kind of been learning as I go. I just started making an money about a year ago. My best advice is to make a media kit and rate sheet and do research to come up with a good price. I made mine on Canva and came up with pricing based off of my Instagram interactions and blog views.
How to bring up your rates to a brand?
I simply just explain that creating content takes a lot of time and work so I do charge a rate. Most brands will then ask to see my rate sheet and together we come up with a game plan.
If you have any questions that I didn’t touch on, send me a dm on Instagram or even an email. As more questions come in, I will update this post!
