Every time I would hear the word Botox, I immediately thought of it in a negative way and I am definitely not the only one. When my friends and family found out about my appointment, you should of seen the looks that I got hah! But after going to The Skin Center, I seriously am so mad at myself for waiting this long to get it. Now don’t get me wrong, some people go way overboard with injections and I think that is why they have such a bad rep. But after doing research and speaking with my injector, Botox really isn’t so bad after all. I did a Q&A on my Instagram before my appointment and received some really good questions so I wanted to write an in depth blog post answering them as well as talking about my experience and showing before/after photos.

They have three med spa locations in Pittsburgh including in Mt. Lebanon, PA, Shadyside, PA and Wexford, PA and a nationally accredited, AAAHC surgical center in Columbus, Ohio. The Skin Center is currently ranked as the #1 medical spa in Pennsylvania, making the Top Ten in the nation by Allergan, Inc. (the makers of Botox®).

Does it hurt?

Honestly, it depends. I have a pretty high pain tolerance but with that being said, it really wasn’t bad at all. There was one area in between my brows that did hurt but it is such a quick process you don’t really have time to think about it because it is over so fast.

Would you get it done again?

Absolutely. I noticed a huge difference with how my foundation looks. It would always sit in my forehead wrinkles making my skin look uneven and textured. It almost in a way magnified my skins imperfections where as now it is all super smooth!

Is it pricey?

The skin center is currently running a promotion where you can get your first Botox treatment for $11 a unit. I had a total of 19 units. Some may think it is pricey but for what it does for me, I personally will be keeping up with it. I will be getting it done every four months.

What does Botox do?

It reduces wrinkles, frown lines and furrows all while keeping your natural and expressive facial movement.

What areas can be treated?

It can be injected into your forehead, eye area (crow’s feet), and lip lines. It can also be injected to soften dimpling of the chin and even into the muscles of the jaw to help alleviate pain from teeth grinding.

Is there any down time?

I was just told to not massage or manipulate the area treated, keep my head above my heart for four hours after treatment and to not workout for at least 24 hours. You also are supposed to make the faces that make the lines that were treated for one hour to increase the absorption of the neuromodulator. Typically, the effects will appear 3-4 days but will take two weeks for full results.

Is it safe?

Yes, it is an FDA approved treatment but if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain neurological diseases you should not receive treatments.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me and I will try to get them answered!
